Kallio tops leaderboard with circuit record in Catalunya
News, 01/03/06
The 125cc teams concluded their stay at the Circuit de Catalunya today, after a day and a half of testing at the 2006 season’s first MotoGP Official Test.
It was Finn Mika Kallio who went round fastest overall, with a late surge in the final half hour seeing the 2005 World Championship runner-up heading the leaderboard. In the final fifteen minutes he broke Hector Barberá’s 2004 circuit record by nearly a tenth, with a time of 1´50.849.
Yesterday’s fastest rider Sergio Gadea equalled his 1´51.365 lap, but saw it improved upon by Kallio, Lukas Pesek and Álvaro Bautista, who took the top three spots on the leaderboard.
Reigning World Champion Thomas Lüthi suffered a crash towards the end of the session. He finished with the tenth fastest time of the day.
Track conditions were similar to yesterday, with slightly cold temperatures and sunny spells.
This afternoon the 250cc teams take to the track for the beginning of their stay at the Official Test.
