Kysymyksiä Heikki Kovalaiselle

Toiveikkaana lähettelin tässä vastikään sähköpostia Arden-tallille heidän sivustonsa kuviin liittyen ja kysäisin samalla, onko jonkinlaisien haastattelujen teko mahdollista heidän välityksellään, erityisenä kiinnostuksen kohteena tietysti Heikki Kovalainen. Yllätyksekseni vastaus oli myöntävä, eli nyt jos on jotain sydämellä Heikkiin liittyen niin laittakaas tänne, omankädenoikeudella valitsen parhaat ja lähetän eteenpäin, katsotaan jos saisi vastauksenkin

Ja toisena mielenkiintoisena itse ainakin pidän että miten vakavia nämä huhutut Renault/Bar-neuvottelut/testit olivat?

No noista tulevaisuudensuunnitelmista on kyselty Heikiltä vaikka kuinka paljon... F1 on ollut tavoitteena jo vaikka kauinka kauan. Sehän on aika selvä se. Sen selvemmin tuskin Heikkikään osaa sanoa tuosta asiasta.

Enemmän kiinnostaisi tuo kuinka Kovalainen kiinnostui moottoriurheilusta jne...

Heikiltä voisi kysellä jotain ajamiseen liittyvästä. Miten esim. kuski pystyy vaikuttamaan auton kehittymiseen testeissä? Minkälaisista säädöistä Heikki itse pitää? Esim. ajaako mieluummin yli- vai aliohjaavalla autolla, jos sit ei saa neutraaliksi? Kuinka paljon Heikki sanoo konkreettisia säätöehdotuksia, vai tyytykö mies kuivalemaan auton käyttäytymisen puutteita tiimille?

* Onko ajanut F1-autoa ilman TC:tä (traction control) ? Onko edes mahdollista? Jos on, kykeneekö ajamaan nopeampia kierroksia ilman luistonestoa kuin luistonestolla

* F1:sten TC-järjestelmissä TC:n toimintaa pystytään säätämään ohjauspyörästä, miten tämä vaikuttaa auton ajettavuuteen?

* Toimintakuvaus Renaultin lähdöstä lähtöruudukosta aina siihen asti kun auto siirtyy "normaalitilaan". Mitä kuljettajan täytyy tehdä jne?

* Kunnon ylläpito off-season ja kilpailukauden aikana

* Joku kuntotestin tulos (paljon nostaa penkistä, cooperin testi, tms.)

* Koska Heikki on noussut kartingista suoraan kansainvälisiin pikkuformuloihin, niin onko tullut ajaneeksi kotimaisilla moottoriradoilla ollenkaan?

* Oletko koskaan harkinnut vierailla kilpailijana Super 2000 Tourin kilpailuluokissa/kilpailuviikonloppuina?

* Olet ollut kartanlukijana mm. Tunturi-rallissa. Olitko ennen Pariisia ajanut WRC-autolla ja onko haaveissa kokeilla tulevaisuudessa rallia isommassa mittakaavassa?

* Olet kilpaillut ansiokkaasti F3:ssa. Suomessa usein hehkutetaan EuroF3:sten olevan tasoikkain sarja, mutta Britannian sarja on usein ollut parempi ponnahduslauta. Mikä on näkökulmasi Britannian, Euro ja Italian F3-sarjojen tasoeroihin, ja mikä on mielestäsi se sarja, jonne nuoren kannattaa mennä?

Q:
Heikki, you recently hit the headlines by winning the Race of Champions in Paris. How important and satisfying was it to beat the likes of Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Loeb?

Heikki Kovalainen:
Yeah it certainly was the best feeling that I've ever had after winning a race but, to be honest, it's probably not the most important race I've done, and won. I think the Nissan World Series last year was more important - and all the other years in Formula 3 and Formula Renault - as I'm still planning to be a single seater driver for many years. But I think it had quite a huge influence on people getting to know me and peoples interest in me – which always helps.

Q:
You're stepping up to GP2 from the Nissan World Series, which you won last season. Do you see it as being a big step between the two cars or pretty much a case of moving to a ‘parallel' series, but one which is better equipped to get you into Formula One in the future?

Heikki Kovalainen:
I don't think it will be a big step forward for me. I was certainly hoping to reach a deal in Formula One this year, but Renault decided that it was better for me to stay in the GP2 series, which I agree, and I will try to make the most of it now. I will concentrate on this year - and I think I will have a good chance to do well with Arden - and, hopefully, next year, we will be talking to F1 even more.

Q:
Obviously GP2 is going to be new to everybody taking part, but do you think that your Nissan World Series experience will give you an advantage?

Heikki Kovalainen:
I don't think there will be any big advantage for me. Everybody will be fairly equal to start with, and people who haven't been driving as big a car will soon pick it up - it's not so different from driving an F3 car or other smaller cars, so I think we will be more or less equal and I will have to work as hard as ever.

Q:
Do you see being with Arden, who obviously have won the last two F3000 titles, as giving you a better chance than being with one of the other teams?

Heikki Kovalainen:
Arden is certainly one of the top teams, they have very good technical people - I've known them for a few years now, even though I haven't been racing with them. But, at the end of the day, it is a new car for everybody - and a new championship for everybody - so we can't take anything for granted. We will have to work hard and not rely on old results.

-Some of the tracks used in GP2 (namely Monaco, Turkey and Bahrain I believe) will be new for you. Do you learn new tracks quickly or have you had problems with them in the past? What kind of process do you have in learning them? I remember Jacques Villeneuve playing video games and Mika Salo rollerblading around the circuits.

-How about your own targets this season – you certainly are one of the favorites for the championship, but what's the minimum, what kind of results would still be acceptable?

-The predecessor of GP2, F3000, had a reputation of ”ruining” many promising careers, in fact only two series champions (Montoya and Alesi) have won an F1 race. In general, the greatest talents have never driven there. Any fears your career might stop developing if success isn't as good as expected?

-You did some testing for Renault last season. How about this year, any tests scheduled?

-In your opinion, how much can a driver contribute to the car's development in testing? When you describe the behaviour of the car to the mechanics, do you give them concretical suggestions on what should be changed or do you just tell them how would you like the car to be?

-What's your opinion on your new team mate, Nicloas Lapierre? How do you rate your old team mates Fabio Carbone, Franck Montagny and Adrian Valles? Montagny is currently trying to find an F1 drive, do you believe he has what it takes to succeed there?

-Your ROC victory was certainly noticed by the media. Is the public more interested in your goings-on now than before the ROC?

-You drove a WRC car in ROC, participated in Arctic Lapland Rally as a co-driver again and drove a couple of stages too if I understood correctly. Do you have any plans in joining Rosberg, Häkkinen & Lehto and trying rallying as a driver?

-It's still hard to believe that it's possible to someone from Suomussalmi to get as far as you have in motorsport. How did you get interested in racing in the first place?

-As a motor racing enthusiast I'd like to know how closely do you follow the sport? What's the most exciting race you've seen? What do you think, are we going to see yet another year of Schuey's dominance in F1?

Vähän johdatteleva ja asenteellinen kysymys tuo kolmas kyssäri jossa kerrot ensin että f3000:ssa ei ole koskaan ajaneet ns. the greatest talents tason kuljettajat. F3000 on kumminkin 20 vuoden ajan ollut paras ja varmin tie ykkösiin. Tästähän on peistä väännetty aikaisemminkin. Ja toisaalta kyllähän se kehitys vääjäämättä pysähtyy jos tulokset eivät ole niin hyviä kuin ennakoitu. Tuskin siitä on järkevää lähteä syyttämään sarjaa.

Tuohon alkuun voisi lisätä jotain höpöhöpöä että Heikki hiukka lämpenee. Vaikka jotain että joko on päässyt ajamaan gp2-autoa, jos niin miltä tuntuu jos ei niin mitä odottaa tms...

Lisäksi kiinostaisi tällainen:

*You are under contract with Renault and your future aim is F1. However the team might be going on with it's current driver setup for some years. Have you talked to Renault people, could they release you to drive for another team if such offer would come to you?

*Most F1 teams are having a dispute with FIA (and Ferrari), have you personally noticed this?

*How do you feel about GPWC?
