It's not only Michelin's interpretation of the rule for tread-width that is being questioned in Formula One circles, according to the latest whisper.
Spies in the Monza paddock reported yesterday that some Michelin-shod teams are being accused of testing cars near Clermont-Ferrand during the summer track-ban.
BMW-Williams' Patrick Head admitted he heard of the rumour in a team managers' meeting that took place at the Autodromo Nazionale on Thursday.
'We have tested at Ladoux, Michelin's (approved) test track,' he said. 'It is only for wet tyres and we've only run there within the F1 testing regulations.'
Head said he was 'not aware' of any illegal tests taking place at other times.
'We have obviously raised the matter with Michelin,' the Englishman added, 'after it was raised in this meeting.'
A Michelin source said 'nobody has run' at Ladoux outside the limitations of the Suzuka document, an agreement between the teams regulating testing.
