Q Overall has this been a positive season for you?
"Yes, I think so. If you look at the season I've improved in many areas. I've had some very consistent performances throughout the whole season in terms of my driving, I've improved my qualifying, and I've had some strong wins and very good races. We've also been disappointed as a team in reliability issues, and generally of course we haven't had the performance from the car that we've seen in previous seasons, so we need to work on that for next year."
Q: You say you've improved - is that just a question of experience?
"I think so. We learn at different rates, but it's not just about you getting in the car and doing the job. It's about the whole environment around you. I've spoken about this many times, but within a team you have two teams, in terms of the two drivers. Where the majority of the support looks like it's going has an affect on both the drivers. It motivates one and demotivates the other. It's an interesting journey, working with the team and trying to get the most of these situations."
Q: You've probably had the worst reliability you've had for the past three or four years. It is frustrating that it's come in this particular season?
"I've probably finished more races this year than in the past, but we've had the issues at Monaco and Barcelona where we went to the back because of the electronics, and you straight away give away the opportunities that you've worked so hard to get. In Monaco being on pole was a great achievement, for the whole team, but to lose it like that at the start was very frustrating."
Q: But the highs have been good haven't they?
"Yes, the highs have been fantastic. Really enjoyable."
Q: Can it all come together for you next year?
"First of all hopefully I'll be staying with the team! You've got to believe that they'll be able to do the job that they did in previous years. But we've still got races this year that we can try and win."
Q: But it's not getting any easier, is it?
"It never gets any easier. But if life wasn't a challenge, or if this sort of business wasn't a challenge, then why would we all put ourselves through the travelling, the time away from home, and so on? It's not all glitz and glamour as it appears on the television. There's a helluva lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to achieve your goals. You don't want to have 10 points guaranteed when you turn up for a weekend, you want to battle for it."
