Citroën to return in 2007 ?
It all depends on the WRC regulations
Peugeot and Citroën - both part of the PSA Group - announced earlier that they will pull out of WRC at the end of the 2005 season. However, nothing is clearly determined for the future of these two French teams.
Citroën Team Principal Guy Frequelin recently revealed to Autosport that his team might come back in the World Rally Championship as early as 2007 ! The final decision will mostly depend on the stability of the sport's regulations.
"Under the right sporting and technical regulations we would be back in 2007," admitted Frequelin to Autosport. "This is why we have not made decisions about 2006. We want to wait and see the regulations for the following year."
According to the British magazine, Citroën has ruled in favour of a 50% cut in their motorsport budget for the next two years. With such a drastic reduction in resources, Citroën are hoping that the WRC season is made up of only 12 rallies in the future, compared with 16 events at the moment.
"At the last working group meeting I made the point that if we can make these changes then maybe we can come back," added Frequelin. "I know Citroen is not the only team trying to make these changes."
