NEW MONACO PITS UNVEILED
Last Updated: Thursday, 22 April , 2004, 11:25
These are the first pictures of the new pitlane facilities that have been built for the Monaco GP.
The new permanent garages will be used for the first time at this year's race on May 23.
The buildings were formally unveiled by Michel Boeri, president of the Automobile Club De Monaco on Tuesday.
The garages will be unique in F1 in that they back on to the race track. There is access to the pit wall at the rear, allowing teams to display their pit boards to passing cars.
The new garages are bigger with offices and toilet facilities upstairs. The pit lane itself will now be two lanes wide.
Monaco's cramped old facilities were notorious in F1 circles. And while space is still at a premium even with the new garages, it should make life easier for teams.
