There haven't really been any qualifying days for us," JJ Lehto admitted, "We have been mainly concentrating on race set-up, trying to make the car as good as possible for the race. This is the biggest thing at Le Mans. Being sixth on the grid does not make any difference - the fight starts later on."
"We started with a car that was not perfect, but we improved it during the first practice and were very happy at the end of the day," co-driver Emanuele Pirro agreed, "After the car was rebuilt for the race, however, it did not seem to be the same anymore. We found the reason, and now we have the R8 we liked back again."
Handling problems were at the root of the Champion car's malaise, and not enough time was left in the session for the American team to mount an assault on the front row.
"We had a problem we initially couldn't locate," team boss Dave Maraj confirmed, "We finally found that the shock absorbers we built in today were not working properly, so we replaced them with the shocks we used yesterday and that worked. Now we have a good car for the race."
