JJ Lehto, driving a quickly-repaired car, set the fastest time Saturday morning as American Le Mans Series teams had their first official practice for Sunday's Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma at Infineon Raceway.
Lehto, driver of the ADT Champion Racing Audi R8, turned a lap of 1:22.540 on the 2.53-mile circuit to lead both the LMP1 class and the field overall. The car, which Lehto will co-drive with Marco Werner, suffered a broken wing support early in the session due to contact on the course with another car. However, the team was able to quickly repair the damage, allowing Lehto to move to the front of the session.
The Chevrolet Corvette C5-R that NASCAR star Dale Earnhardt, Jr., is sharing with Boris Said was third-fastest in the GTS class with a lap of 1:30.463. Earnhardt is making his ALMS debut in the race with the factory Corvette squad.
