Keohane closes in on Champ Cars.
Irish Racing driver Michael Keohane is today a step closer to finalising a deal to compete in the Champ Car World Series following a successful test for Dale Coyne Racing at Sebring.
"Now I have a taste of what a Champ Car can do I really want to be racing in the series this year," said Keohane, "I have to thank Dale Coyne as he was good enough to let me test one of his cars in November last year and now I am very close to finalising a deal to do the 2004 season."
"I am very excited about the season ahead, especially now that OWRS have the chance to revive Champ Car," added Keohane. "I want to be a part of that and hopefully we will be able to announce something soon."
For the last few seasons Keohane has competed in the British Formula 3 Championship, finishing on the podium no fewer than 25 times. During the 2003 season Keohane also competed in selected International F3000 races.
Carpentier out at Forsythe Racing?
Patrick Carpentier may have lost his ride with Forsythe Racing, Crash.net has learned. Rodolfo Lavin is rumored to be the replacement and could be named as the teams second driver this coming week in Long Beach.
The speculation, which comes from an anonymous source who spent several years as a Forsythe Racing employee, also claims that Forsythe will not field three cars but stay with only two. Carpentier, who earned the Jim Trueman Rookie of the Year award in 1997, has spent all but one year of his Champ Car career with Forsythe's Players team.
Lavin will no doubt bring backing from his long standing sponsor Corona Extra which is part of the Grupo Modelo Brewing company in Mexico. The Mexican driver came up through the CART ladder series and raced in Champ Cars in 2003 with Corona Extra sponsorship for the Walker Racing team.
Carpentier set track records at Nazareth and Milwaukee in 1998 during qualifying that still stand and his first career victory came in 2001 after winning at Michigan. Carpentier has had 126 Champ Car starts, 4 victories, 4 poles and 17 podiums.
