Canadian F1 incident involving Seb and Lewis
Sadly, I've read a lot of very aggressive and hateful comments in relation to Seb's mistake yesterday, mostly aimed at Lewis. First and foremost, I understand passion in sport, without it, what's the point! Ultimately we want to move forward and make our sport the best for everyone. Yesterday, Lewis was putting a lot of pressure on Seb. Isn't that what we all want to see? The best F1 drivers competing for the the crown of the best driver of all time. Seb made a mistake, lost control and in my opinion, returned to the track in an unsafe manner. After which Seb was heard screaming "what was I supposed to do!" You had a couple of choices Seb. A) you didn't have to continue across the track and back on the racing line (you are good enough to regain control, if the racing line had have been a concrete wall, you wouldn't gone to it) B) you could've stayed tighter to the left, where of course Lewis would've passed you. C) Or, you could've given up your position to Lewis.
If you had opted for either of the latter choices, you could've continued to make it a great race and possibly passed Lewis to win one of the best battles of all time.
Instead, you deprived us, the fans and the teams of this and were subjected to your petulance and ignorance, which was pathetic and pitiful. You're a mature adult, an iconic figure in F1 and a seriously high profile role model. Again, I get the passion and emotion but hey, we all have difficult decisions to make.
As for the ridiculous comments from the what feels like a hugely biased Sky F1 sports commentary team . I'm staggered!! Really, they all sided with Seb's corner, despite the reckless action taken by him to ensure he kept the lead of the race. Do these guys have any respect for the huge levels of skill and ability that these F1 drivers possess? This isn't stock car racing (no disrespect intended), you're not hanging onto the steering wheel for grim death and anything goes! There are rules, which are there for the good of the sport and of coarse for safety. Seb lost control of his car, for whatever reason, therefore he shouldn't be allowed to put others behind, who are in control, in danger. This is exactly what and I believe knowingly did. I don't agree with the Stewards decision of a 5 second penalty because Seb made two errors of judgement within split seconds of each other. They should've have simply ordered him to let Lewis past immediately and carried on racing, which would have increased the excitement and made for a cracking finale.
