With regards to the 2006 season, KSO (promoter of the FIA World Touring Car Championship) and Eurosport (host broadcaster of the FIA World Touring Car Championship) requested to SRO (promoter of the FIA GT Championship), to reduce from three hours to two hours the length of the FIA GT Championship races.

This request was proposed for the following reasons:

a) because KSO wished to have a better balance of track time between the FIA WTCC and the FIA GT during the weekend
b) because KSO wished to reduce from three days to two days the duration of the racing meetings
c) because Eurosport is convinced that the current three-hour format of the FIA GT races is too long for a good TV coverage

After a number of inconclusive meetings, yesterday evening KSO have decided to stop their commercial relationship with SRO from 2006. Therefore, from the next season the FIA World Touring Car Championship events will
not include any rounds of the FIA GT Championship, as it is already the case this yearfor the rounds in Puebla, Valencia and Macau.

"Sporting Director Wolfgang Ullrich suggested in L'Equipe that, on the technical front, "We've made the choice," and it will be a diesel engine in the next Audi prototype, the R10.

The first versions of the engine have been running on the test bench for several months, but also on the track, in a laboratory chassis."

Simonsen set to join Aston Martin GT team

British GT racer Allan Simonsen is set to get the chance to compete in the Aston Martin DBR9 after ex-F1 driver Jac Nellemann announced plans for an all Danish assault on the Le Mans 24 Hours.

Nellemann has put together a deal with Aston Martin which will see three top Danish drivers race the DBR9 in 2006 with the ultimate aim being to secure the GT1 title in the 2006 running of the famous 24 Hour event.

Also present at the launch of the car were former F1 racer Jan Magnussen, Champ Car driver Ronnie Bremer and Porsche works pilot Martin Jensen.

Niko Nurmisella loistava debyytti FIA GT -sarjassa

Urheiluautojen FIA GT –sarja jatkui viime viikonloppuna Saksassa Oscherslebenin moottoriradalla. Suomalaisväriä kilpailussa edusti Czech National Teamin Porschella debytoinyt salolainen Niko Nurminen. Ensimmäistä kertaa urallaan Porschen ratissa ja Oscherslebenin radalla esiintynyt Nurminen sopeutui uusiin ympyröihin nopeasti ja kellotti kilpailukykyisiä aikoja jo perjantain vapaissa harjoituksissa.

Onkos tämä Niko muille tuttu nimi? Ainoa muistikuva on, kun näin nimen 2005 Nurburgringin 24h kisan lähtöluettelossa. Hänen kotisivuiltaan löytyy infoa, et olisi ajanut Puolan GT-sarjaa :doubtful:

Mulsanne Corner news - Audi R10

File this under spurious rumor for now (though note where you heard it!). But it is with enough detail and from a reliable source that I felt justified in publishing it as there is a large information void regarding the subject of the new Audi LMP car. Word is that the car will be diesel V12 powered. It is no secret that Audi is coming back with a new car that will be diesel powered. But up until now all talk had centered around a V10 turbo diesel. My source, who knows better than I, indicates that a move to a V12, "reveals that they are after the maximum allowed volume and/or the highest possible revs in the diesel." Simplified, diesels generate power by increasing boost pressure or throwing more fuel into the cylinder. Both of these methods increase the likelihood that the head will separate from the block and aren't necessarily conducive to endurance racing reliability. A V12 will allow for more revs which, while not eliminating reliability issues, moves the stress on the engine from the head bolts to elsewhere (the cylinder heads will be under enough stress as it is!).

Mielenkiintoista nähdä tuo, V12 Diesel ei oo ollut mikään yleisin kone moottoriurheilussa..

It is predicted that with a similar fuel tank size (to a gasoline powered LMP1 engine), a diesel will be able to run 2-4 laps longer at Le Mans.

Jos toi pitää edes suurinpiirtein paikkaansa, niin siitä on tosi iso etu Lemansissa. Noh, ainakin jos auto on muuten nopea :tongue:

Sinänsä hauskaa, että amerikkalaiset (olisin odottanut, että Mulsanne Mike olisi ymmärtänyt heti mistä "kana pissii") ihmettelee miksi ylipäänsä Diesel.

Eiköhän kaikkein suurimpana tekijänä ole taustalla markkinointi ja dieselin kehitystyö. Saapahan taas Audi uuden sulan hattuunsa, jos saavat voittajaksi ja ehkä jopa hiukan ohjailtua Amerikan markkinoita... R8 oli merkittävä tekijä FSI:n saattamisessa merkittäväksi tekniseksi edistysaskeleeksi ja mikäpä oli turbotettujen dieseleiden markkinoilla mukavampi meriitti kuin kisavoitot. Volkkari yrittää Dakarissa ja Audi Le Mansissa...

Jos onnistuvat, niin eiköhän se ole aika hyvä selkävoitto BMW:stä ja Mersusta dieselrintamalaa -toistaiseksi.

One high profile team attended the launch, represented by former Formula One Brabham and Ligier team-mates Martin Brundle and Mark Blundell, who are forming a three-way partnership with David Price. Brundle and Blundell expect to be racing Aston Martins together by the end of 2005 as one of the ‘factory teams’, Brundle planning a television programme which should be attractive to sponsors.

Tämä projekti on sit jossain vaiheessa haudattu, olisihan se ollut varmaan kiva nähdä miehet taas menossa mukana. Ehkäpä sitten 2006? En ole kyllä missään nähnyt juttua, että näille kahdelle olisi Aston Martinia menossa.

Rahal Coming to the ALMS with Honda?

The-Paddock.net has learned from a source that would like to remain anonymous (yllättävää) that Bobby Rahal may be running a Lola LMP2 Honda in the American Le Mans Series for 2006. As reported on Speed News last Sunday by Robert Clark, Honda’s North American Performance Development representative, the Japanese manufacturer is very interested in competing in the American Le Mans Series due to its open rules that allow nearly every type of engine to compete. However, Honda’s LMP2 engine would be derived from their IRL based powerplant.

Award for TFSI engine of the Audi R8

The Audi R8 is the most successful Le Mans prototype ever and is still the world's only race car to combine direct fuel injection and turbo charging. For its TFSI technology, which initially established itself on the race track and, meanwhile, inspires high-volume production, Audi was honoured yet again: An international panel of experts presented Ulrich Baretzky, Head of Engine Technology at Audi Sport, with the "Race Engine Designer of the Year Award".

"I'm very proud of this award, which I receive on behalf of my team," explained Ulrich Baretzky at the presentation in the Royal Air Force Museum in London. "What we achieved with the R8 was genuine team effort."

In the 77 races contested to date, the Audi R8 scored a total of 61 outright victories, won the 24 Hours of Le Mans five times and the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) six times in succession. Even more impressive is the reliability of its 3.6 litre twin-turbo V8 power unit: Since making its debut in March 2000 there was not a single engine failure during a race - an achievement, which also impressed the Race Tech World Motorsport Symposium expert panel that consists of high-profile technicians from various facets of motorsport including Formula 1.

Siitä vähän haastetta Audille tulevaa diesel-konetta varten. Vajaa 80 kisaa ilman konerikkoa kisoissa vaikka ovat ajaneet useat Lemansit, Sebringit, Petit Lemansit jne ja vielä monella autolla.

D1 Oils to Test Biodiesel in Performance Race Car

D1 Oils plc (D1), the UK-based global producer of biodiesel from renewable energy crops, is to test the performance of green diesel fuel by sponsoring the entry of a biodiesel powered car in the Le Mans global series of sports car races. The D1 Lola B2K car will be powered by a high performance diesel engine modified to run on a mix of regular diesel and biodiesel produced from vegetable oils. The objective is to test the performance, fuel efficiency and emissions produced by different biodiesel blends. The D1 car and engine are being developed for Le Mans Prototype racing by groupBio, a UK-based racing team.

Harri Toivosta haastateltiin jokunen päivä sitten urheiluradiossa. Sen mukaan "vanhuksella" olisi vielä tiedossa ajohaasteita, vaikkakin muutama vuosi on mennytkin hiljaisuudessa.

Harri Toivonen on varmasti eräs kokeneimmista suomalasista autourheilijoista, josta kuitenkaan ei pitkään aikaan ole kuulunut mitään. Nyt miehellä on hieno haaste, joka liittyy diesel-moottoreihin. Mutta mitä Harri on viime vuosina tehnyt, sitä kysyi Jouko Vuolle.

Biodieselistä tulee mieleen Nordschleifella tutuksi tullut VW Beetle, jonka yhtenä kuskina on räppäri Smudo Fanta4-bändistä. Kuuleman mukaan tiimi vaihtaa ensi vuodeksi alleen Ford Mustangin, joka toimii biodieselillä!

PSI Purchases First Customer Corvette C6.R

As reported on Virages.net, a regular competitor in the Belcar series, PSI, has purchased the first customer Chevrolet Corvette C6.R. The Belgian team which also took delivery the ex-Pacific Coast Motorsports Corvette C5-R, will be campaigning the Corvette C6.R chassis nr 002 in Europe. Their original plan was to enter the C5-R in the Le Mans Series as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and Spa. Now with their new C6.R beast, it could mean an expanded program. "I bought the Corvette C6.R chassis n°2 that competed in Le Mans and the ALMS in 2005. With a C5-R that’s "up to date" bought from P.C.M, I think that P.S.I. will be well armed for 2006." Philippe Tillié, from PSI explained.
