Q: Initially it was your aim to reduce the downforce levels by 50%. However, several technicians say that the reduction of downforce will be less than that. What's your view on these comments ?
Rory Byrne: ''First of all it's right that we initially set a 50% reduction as a benchmark. But right from the start it was clear to us that the teams would partly make up for that. But overall there will still be a clear loss of aerodynamical downforce.''
''But only because of the reintroduction of slick tyres there will already be a shift in the direction of mechanical grip. Besides, the smaller rearwing measurements will create less turbulence so that it will be easier to follow another car and then perhaps overtake it. And then the frontwing will also comprise of adjustable elements. That means that the car can be set-up more stabily when in a slipstream, and this enhances following the car in front. Following another car, and eventually overtaking, will definately be clearly easier in comparison with the current situation. I don't have the slightest of doubt in that respect.''
Q: When you take the new wing and the slick tyres into consideration, then how will these factors influence the laptimes ?
Rory Byrne: ''At the moment that's hard to predict. Our initial target was not to make the laptimes slower than five seconds. It will certainly not be that much. Our simulations, that have been based on a reduction of 50% of the downforce, have shown that we'll be in the area of going two to three seconds slower.''
