Sato lowers Barcelona record
Japanese driver sets new mark in hybrid BAR
Sato has eclipsed his team-mates lap record at Barcelona
Takuma Sato has continued BAR-Honda's assault on the Barcelona lap record this morning (Tuesday). Driving the team's all-black hybrid machine, the Japanese ace set a new mark of 1m13.787s, eclipsing the flying time set by team-mate Jenson Button in the new 006 yesterday.
As with Button's record yesterday, Sato set his time on a low fuel, flat-out qualifying run. The hybrid machine that he is running in features 2003-spec bodywork, although most of the key internal components, such as the engine and the gearbox, are new.
Button, who lapped the circuit yesterday in 1m13.867s, is continuing development work on the new 006 today. Sato is due to begin his running in the new car at the team's next test.
