It has been revealed on the Autosport web site, autosport.com, that the WilliamsF1 team will make the move to Toyota engines for the 2007 season after just one year running Cosworth engines. The deal is believed to be for two years with an option for a third if the partnership works out.
This move will allow the WilliamsF1 team to move back into the select group of teams whose engines are supplied by a car manufacturer after losing their supply of BMW engines. The announcement of the deal is expected to be announced at the Canadian Grand Prix.
Despite the teams move to Toyota this does not indicate that the team is unhappy with their current supplier Cosworth. In a statement to Autosport a source close to the team said: "Cosworth's performance on the budget they have is remarkable."
As for the choice of engines WilliamsF1 team boss Frank Williams indicated that their were several factors involved in making any choice. At the San Marino Grand Prix Williams said: "The engine choice is both technical and commercial. Who has got the best chance of winning, versus what else comes with the engine?"
