Earlier this year, leading rally journalist David Evans claimed that there is footage locked away somewhere that shows the car leave the road, which Lancia inspected at the time – the video indicates the car made no attempt to slow down or make the corner, further adding to the intrigue.

Well-written piece, but it doesn't exactly add credibility to get these kind of fundamentals wrong:

With all the respect, i can’t See Toivo make some kind of mistakes leading to a fatal crash in that corner. That ‘fundamental’ was valid in every rally of the 1986 season. The car went off in a quite straight line, and you have absolutely no break Marks. And even with 500 bhp, a wrong note or whatever you want… i believe it’s quite impossible that a driver of that clsss had not understood he couldn’t had been able to make the corner

French tv worker who said he filmed (even if by distance) and seems to saw Henri doing strange movement with the harm.

I have a feeling this is the actual accident video that we know about. The person filming the video probably witnessed the accident from the beginning but unfortunately he was either too slow to start recording or his camera started to record slowly.

I think it is a bit of a miracle that there is even one video of the accident. The accident happened in a relatively remote location on a route consisting of over 1000 stage kilometres. This was also in an era long before smart phones, although video cameras on stages were becoming more common in the 80s. But it's good to bear in mind that there is not one single verified video of Henri driving on that stage before the accident video, apart from the clip from the stage start. So that is 5 kilometres of driving without one single verified clip. Most (all?) of the professional crews were packed in the junction at Ponte Castirla.

I meant that Henri never said the words quoted in the story in Corte just before the accident, but in Bastia the previous evening, before driving his Delta S4 to overnight parc fermé.

You mean Luciano Tedeschini's comments in the Rally.it video you linked? Are you sure he's not speaking of the same video that we already know about? If so, could you please translate the part which verifies he is talking about another video that we don't know about.

I don't really understand a lot of Italian but I understood that the "secret video" he saw in France was shown on French TV? If I recall correctly, the accident video that we know about was shown on French TV quite soon after the accident.

Yes, I’ve reached LT and he confirmed the video was different and was shown on french tv. Given it’s been decades i’d like to ask Evans if it’s true he’s seen the video and when he hypotetically saw it

Someone on this thread said years ago having seen on "satellite channels" a video of the accident that was different than we've seen on youtube, but I always take these memories with a grain of salt because it's been decades and memories relating to tragic things can be "modified" in your brain.¨
