Supertallit? Tarkoitatko McLarenia ja Ferraria?
Puoleellisen lehden taholta arvio budjetista?
The March issue of F1 Racing has their annual survey of F1 team budgets.
These are F1 Racing's "estimates", but they are based in part on official
figures which have to be filed at Companies House (UK teams). In most cases
the data is that filed at the end of 2004 and the numbers have been revised
to apply to season 2005.
A couple of unrelated comments from the article - Red Bull DID pay Ford $1
for the Jaguar team, and Jaguar paid Pizzonia $477,317 to terminate his
contract back in 2003.
The budgets are broken into several categories:
R&D (Research and Development) - the basic cost of designing and developing
the cars
WT (Wind Tunnel) - the cost of running one (or two) wind tunnels 24/7.
Includes the heavy cost of power and on staff.
Man. (Manufacturing) - the cost of building the cars. The ball park figure
for building a single rolling chassis, sans engine, but with gearbox and
other ancillaries is between $250k and $300k. That figure is multiplied
by the number of chassis built during the year - Toyota built ten TF105s.
Eng. (Engines) - the cost of the powerplants
T&A (Travel & Accommodation) - how much it costs to send staff to races,
and house them while there. Costs increased in 2005, in part because of
the extra races. As it says, first class on BA or Qantas London-Melbourne-
London costs about $13k per person.
Tests (Testing costs) - the ballpark figure for testing is $1250 per lap
(fuel, tyres, pads, etc.). Toyota did 8500 laps last year, which costs
about $50m.
Races - the cost of putting the cars on the track. These also increased
in 2005 because of the extra races. Note that these numbers include the
costs of shipping the cars and equipment - the T&A are the personnel
costs.
T-Sal (Team Salaries) - the wage bill, excluding the drivers. Team
sources have told F1 Racing that previous estimates have been on the
low side, some of the anomalies have been corrected. Williams figure
is based on a workforce of 513, while McLaren's has fallen slightly
to 524. It is alleged that Red Bull have been offering an average
50% increase in salary to encourage defections from the other teams.
Some Renault guys earning $60k have been lured away by offers of $90k.
D-Sal (Driver Salaries)
Some details
Toyota - Ralf $25m, Trulli $10m, Panis £3.5m, Zonta $1m
Ferrari - MS $35m, Rubens $10m, Badoer $1.5m
Renault - Alonso $9m, Fisi $9m, Montagny $250k
McLaren - Kimi $22m, JPM $15m, Wurz $2.5m, de la Rosa $500k
C.E. (Corporate Entertainment)
All figures are in millions of US dollars. It now costs about three billion dollars
to produce the F1 season.
